On March 2, 2018, ENOS partner UniRoma1 (Università di Roma “La Sapienza”) had the pleasure to host researchers from Korea to exchange knowledge and ideas on shallow CO2 injection experiments. Our guests included Prof. Seong-Taek Yun from the Korea University, who is the Dean of the College of Science and Director of K-COSEM (the Korea-CO2 Storage Environmental Management Research Center), Prof. Kang-Kun Lee from the Seoul National University, who is President of the Geological Society of Korea and Head of Groundwater research at K-COSEM, and Dr. Seong-Sun Lee from the Seoul National University. Discussions centered around the various CO2 injection experiments performed by K-COSEM at their unsaturated and saturated test sites at Eumseong, South Korea, as well as ENOS research to be conducted by UniRoma1 at the planned Sulcis Fault Lab in SW Sardinia. In addition to direct discussions amongst the researchers, Prof. Kang-Kun Lee also kindly gave an open seminar to the Earth Sciences Department entitled “Injection of CO2 and tracer-infused water into a shallow aquifer and leakage detection monitoring at the K-COSEM site, South Korea”. The daylong meeting highlighted mutual interests and it is hoped that it will form the basis for future scientific exchange and collaboration.
